Hello, my name is Yana Shavers, a fellow graduate and American citizen riddled with private student loan debt, as millions of other Americans are. I originally took out $36,000 worth of student loans, about 3 years ago and now, my balance is $50,000, with accrued interested of over $10,000. Sallie Mae, along with other private lenders, target young, fresh-out-of-high school individuals with predatory practices that cause these college-seekers to become burdened with debt that they may never be able to pay off.

I urge you to stand with me and fight for Sallie Mae to lower interest rates and create more affordable payment plans for the millions of borrowers that so desperately need them. Creating more affordable payment plans, such as extending forbearance, allows borrowers not only peace of mind, but helps ease the burden that private student loans cause. With the rising cost of housing, groceries, and more, many Americans are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet, especially those with private student loans.
