Safer streets and smarter parking to reduce congestion in Ward C, Jersey City

Safer streets and smarter parking to reduce congestion in Ward C, Jersey City
The Issue
As a resident of Jersey City who depends on my car for daily life, I’ve experienced the stress and inconvenience of searching for scarce parking in Ward C. As our neighborhood grows, with new buildings emerging and populations rising, the number of available parking slots continues to dwindle. Furthermore, stringent street cleaning schedules exacerbate the problem, especially for residents with inflexible work routines.
Building a new parking garage in the Mcginley square area can alleviate these issues while providing additional benefits to the community. Jersey City’s population has grown by ~7% in the past decade (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020), resulting in increased demands for parking spaces. However, parking infrastructure has not kept pace with this growth, leaving many residents and visitors struggling to find parking regularly.
The proposed new parking structure would not only meet the increased demand but also improve safety on our streets for everyone, including bikers and pedestrians. With fewer cars circling for parking and staying on the street, congestion would be reduced, creating safer conditions for those using alternative modes of transportation like bikes.
Additionally, a well-placed parking garage could generate substantial revenue for the city, which could be reinvested in further infrastructure improvements, including public transit and bike lanes.
We urge our city officials to prioritize this issue and take the necessary steps toward the establishment of a new parking garages in Jersey City. Each signature on this petition is a vote for better living conditions, safer streets, and a more convenient future for all residents.
Please sign this petition to support the development of improved parking facilities in our neighborhood.
