Safer Roads for Slag Lane and Frogmore Road

Safer Roads for Slag Lane and Frogmore Road
The Issue
We, the concerned residents of Slag Lane, Westbury, Wiltshire, urge local authorities to take immediate action to improve the road safety conditions on Slag Lane and Frogmore Road. Our aim is to create a safer environment for our children, residents, local walkers, pets, and wildlife.
Slag Lane and Frogmore Road have become increasingly hazardous due to drivers abusing the speed limits and inadequate safety measures. The lack of proper infrastructure poses a significant risk to the well-being of our community members and puts innocent lives in danger every day.
Here are some key reasons why urgent action is necessary:
1. High Pet/Wildlife Accident Rate & Potential Fatalities to Children: The current road safety conditions have led to an alarming number of accidents in recent years. These accidents not only cause physical injuries but also result in emotional trauma for those involved. We cannot afford to wait for more tragedies before taking preventive measures.
2. Speed Limit Abuse: With everyday drivers abusing the speed limit, we are noticing the increase in risk to our children, pets, and local residents. The abuse in speed limits is causing major concern to life across Slag Lane & Frogmore Road.
3. Insufficient Pedestrian Safety Measures: Pedestrians face numerous risks while navigating these roads as there are limited pavements or crossings available. This lack of safe pedestrian infrastructure endangers children walking to school or people out for a stroll with their pets.
4. Threats to Wildlife: The current road design does not account for the presence of wildlife that inhabit nearby areas such as fields or woodlands adjacent to Slag Lane and Frogmore Road. As a result, animals often attempt dangerous crossings which frequently lead to fatal collisions with vehicles.
We believe it is essential that immediate action be taken by relevant authorities including:
1. Implementing Traffic Calming Measures: Installing speed bumps or traffic islands along Slag Lane and Frogmore Road will help reduce speeding and encourage safer driving habits.
2. Enhancing Pedestrian Safety: Constructing well-marked crosswalks, installing adequate street lighting, and widening/installing pavements/crossings will improve safety for pedestrians, especially children walking to school.
3. Wildlife Protection Measures: Erecting wildlife-friendly fencing or barriers along the road edges can prevent animals from wandering onto the road, reducing the risk of collisions.
4. Increasing Police Presence: Regular police patrols or speed cameras in the area can deter reckless driving behaviors and enforce traffic regulations effectively.
We call upon local authorities to prioritise our community's safety by addressing these concerns promptly. Together, we can create a safer environment for our children, residents, local walkers, pets, and wildlife on Slag Lane and Frogmore Road.
Sign this petition today to make our voices heard and demand immediate action for improved road safety!
