Safer Crossing for Julian's Primary School, Streatham

The Issue

Julian's Primary School (Streatham site) is located on Leigham Court Road, SW16, a road which is plagued by heavy traffic and speeding. The stretch between Julian's and St Peter's Church is particularly bad, with no safe crossing place for a distance of 0.2 miles.

This stretch of road is straight, with narrow pavements, and bends to the left and downhill as it approaches the church, so traffic speeds up, and it can feel extremely unsafe when pavements are busy with families, buggies and large groups of people during school drop-off and pick-up.

There is also no safe crossing place for people leaving the 417 bus at the Rockhampton Road stop, which is located at a spot with very poor visibility, and the nearest traffic island, outside St Peter's Church, is small, not well protected and often feels very dangerous to cross.

The stretches of Leigham Court Road from Julian's to Streatham Common, and from Valley Road to Dunraven, have many more crossing places and feel much safer as a result - and with the crossing at Mount Nod Road currently being improved.

Julian's parents, and other local residents, feel that it is time the central section of Leigham Court Road gets some of the attention other areas have received - we would like to ask for an additional traffic island near Rockhampton Road, and for the traffic island at St Peter's Church to be made larger and safer. Please sign if you agree this would be a benefit to make this dangerous stretch of road safer for everyone!
