Safeguard Our Health: Continue the Fluoridation of Naples' Public Water Supply

Safeguard Our Health: Continue the Fluoridation of Naples' Public Water Supply

The Issue

As concerned healthcare professionals and advocates for public health, retaining fluoridation to the recommended levels in our city's public water supply is vital to us. The connection between water fluoridation and optimal dental and overall health is well-established through numerous peer-reviewed, scientific studies.

Oral health is a key component of well-being, affecting the capacity to eat, speak, and live without pain. Fluoridation works for everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status and access to dental care. Those who prefer to reduce fluoride in their water have options to do so.

Tooth decay is the most common chronic illness both for adults and children in the U.S. Tooth decay can also lead to life-threatening complications, such as intracerebral strokes, endocarditis, and coronary artery disease. Water fluoridation can help mitigate tooth decay. Water fluoridation has been proven to reduce cavities by at least 25% in children and adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There is robust support for this preventative measure from major health organizations. The American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Florida Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Family Physicians, and American Nurses Association, collectively representing millions of healthcare providers, advocate for water fluoridation. The U.S. Department of Defense also supports water fluoridation.

Water fluoridation promotes oral health for everyone in the community, regardless of age, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, or level of education. We need to continue investing in the well-being of our entire community by keeping our water fluoridated. Please sign this petition to support the retention of water fluoridation in our city's public water supply.
