Safe Streets for North Bethlehem

The Issue

Every day, I see how dangerous the intersections at Maple & E. Union Boulevard and Maple & Goepp Street in North Bethlehem really are. As a mom of two young children, a local business owner, and a resident, I cannot remain silent about this ongoing risk. My family and I, along with many of our neighbors, have been directly impacted. There have been near-misses with children and crossing guards, my husband was hit by a car, my truck was struck with my children inside, and neighbors’ vehicles have been damaged. And more recently,  a pedestrian was hit.  Furthermore, stop sign violations and crashes occur at these intersections far too frequently.

These intersections are heavily traveled by drivers, schoolchildren, pedestrians, and families heading to nearby parks. Yet instead of feeling safe, people are left anxious every time they pass through. Installing traffic lights here would drastically reduce accidents, calm traffic, and protect lives.

Studies show that adding traffic lights can cut crashes by up to 30% (American Traffic Safety Services Association). The cost of waiting is much greater — because the next accident could cause devastating harm to a child, parent, or neighbor.

We’re asking city officials to take action now and install traffic lights at Maple & E. Union and Maple & Goepp. We cannot afford to wait until tragedy strikes. Please sign this petition to show your support for safer streets in North Bethlehem. Together, we can protect our children, our families, and our community.
