Castro Valley MAC Board would like to discuss Safe Pathways to Schools. As parents, we are dedicated and invested deeply with this issue. We have been promised from CVUSD and Alameda County Transportation Department to obtain support to improve multiple areas where there is high volume of traffic and pedestrian usage during pick up and drop off from congested school areas. We also have the only two middle schools in town within a mile of each other on the other side of town for a large part of our community. High visibility painting, signage, video cameras to address poor driving habits and any other low tech high impact opportunities need to be addressed along with Alameda County Sheriff support to implement items that have been proven to change poor habits. Parents across our entire Castro Valley Unified School District are tired of constant apologies and letters relaying anticipated changes. It is time to implement real changes immediately in light of a recent fatality of one of our students. One is enough and too many other close calls have increasingly heightened the alert of parents to take action. Please join us in solidarity of creating truly Safe Pathways for CV Schools.
