Dear Petitioner

Thank you for the petition submitted on the change.org website about works currently being completed on Green Lanes in London Borough of Enfield.

We note that the petition states that 80% of residents opposed the scheme. The actual consultation report on the A105 scheme is publicly available to view through the following link: http://cycleenfield.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/A105-Consultation-Report.pdf.

The London Borough of Enfield conducted extensive public engagement with regard to the generalities of the scheme, including public exhibitions and a 12 week informal consultation. In addition, this scheme has been subject to a series of decisions by Enfield Council and subsequent reviews of those decisions.

These documents are available to the public and can be found on Enfield’s website:

Improving cycling infrastructure on London’s high streets is a major priority for the Mayor. London Borough of Enfield’s independent projections show that the population of the borough will grow to over 400,000, therefore the Council believes it is essential that it provides the infrastructure to encourage people to cycle local trips safely. If the Council does not invest in new infrastructure, the borough’s roads will become more and more congested which will have a knock on effect for the local community and economy. The Mayor appreciates that the construction works along the A105 have created disruption for a number of local residents and businesses. However, looking longer term the Council believes the Cycle Enfield programme will bring significant benefits for the whole of our community.

I note you also mention a lack of parking and loading facilities as work was ongoing. As part of the scheme’s construction programme, additional free parking was provided for shoppers in the nearby Ford’s Grove car park as well as parking being available on adjacent streets. If any business believes their business rates to be incorrect they are able to challenge this, and details can be found on the Gov.Uk website at: www.gov.uk. Businesses on the route have had the services of a designated liaison officer, who was able to assist businesses in arranging business deliveries. Other specific issues raised by individual businesses were also able to be resolved in this manner. A list of non-specific business mitigation measures is also available to view publicly at: http://cycleenfield.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Minimising-disruption-for-residents-and-businesses.pdf.

Yours sincerely
