Yesterday, Labour London Assembly member Sakina Sheikh proposed a motion calling for the Mayor to include care and support workers in the Greater London Authority’s ‘core’ definition of key workers. We are incredibly pleased to tell you that this was passed unanimously by the Assembly!

We want to say a huge thank you to all members of the London Assembly, but to Sakina Sheikh in particular who put forth the motion and has been incredibly supportive of our campaign.

Extortionate housing costs and low wages mean that those of us working in London can often barely afford to live in the communities we serve and access to affordable housing could help alleviate the financial pressures many of us are under.

Today it felt really important to have the experiences of social care workers discussed by those at City Hall and we hope our struggle continues to stay on their agenda.

Things are hard at the moment: we are in the midst of a staffing crisis and so much more needs to be done to fix our broken social care system, but wins like this are important ❤️
