On Monday night Saddleworth Parish Council removed Mike Buckley from all committees, effectively ostracising him from local politics and removing any power he once had to make decisions in public office. His request for a 4-month Leave of Absence was refused and from today he sits a powerless lame duck. When I started this petition I was told it would have no affect. I was told that politics is a closed shop and that the "little people" (that's you and I) couldn't change what was deeply ingrained in people of power. Today we've shown Saddleworth that the people have the final say. You kindly took the time to sign this petition, share it with your friends, and send me supportive messages. In return Saddleworth Parish Council understood the depth of local feeling and took affirmative action. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the brave Parish Councillors, particularly Alan Belmore and Paul Fryer, who put their heads above the parapet and took a stand. In a small community dominated by a bully such as Mike Buckley, it's a brave thing to do. Despite all of the above, Mike Buckley is still "technically" a member of Saddleworth Parish Council - but that's a fight for another day. For now our petition is victorious and has come to an end. But I'd like all of you to keep an eye on Saddleworth Parish Council and make sure this never happens again. I'd like to end this campaign with a final request for Mike Buckley; Make a public donation to the NSPCC of £734 (that's £1 for each and every signature on this petition). Thank you.
