Apologize for Offensive Hillary Clinton/Bernie Sanders Cartoon

The Issue

Dear Sacramento Bee Editorial Board,

The undersigned women and men – diverse in gender, ethnicity, age, political persuasion and geography – object to the offensive cartoon depiction of Secretary of State/Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders (“Sen. Sanders ponders,” May 1, 2015) drawn by Sacramento Bee Editorial Board member and cartoonist, Jack Ohman.

We call upon the Editorial Board to apologize for publishing a cartoon that sexually objectifies two presidential candidates as well as degrades and demeans women in general.

Editorial standards should have determined that this cartoon was not appropriate for publication in a respectable paper such as yours. It does not stay within – or near – the boundaries of taste, decency and journalistic fairness.

Thank you.
