The people of Sabah, NGOs & NGIs (non-governmental individuals) have tried in many ways to talk to the decision makers but they did not want to listen. The last avenue is here. It’s election time and this is your opportunity to choose leaders who are ethical and know the value of ecology and aesthetics. The CHOICE is in your hands. You had leaders who chose to bury the beach and with it the memories of thousands of Sabahans who literally grew up along the Beach. And in spite of the advent of global warming, they planned to reclaim about 700 acres of the sea or maybe even more. This is a crime against Nature. Such a project that destroys Nature cannot be an eco project – EGO project maybe, but not eco. Sabah is gifted with an abundance of land and beautiful beaches. But the decision makers choose to be blind, simply because this project will create valuable real estate from which, probably, many ‘hidden hands’ will benefit at the expense of the ordinary citizens. The future of Tg. Aru Beach as an icon of Kota Kinabalu and for all Sabahans is in your hands. VOTE wisely. Vote in leaders who respect the citizens and work to conserve and preserve Tg. Aru Beach. WE are not against development – we want Tg. Aru Beach sea-front to be developed but any development should be for the benefit of Sabahans and visitors can enjoy it too. And development must not destroy the Natural beach or involve reclamation. Whatever fake beach created will never be comparable to the current beach and furthermore it won’t be sustainable.
