The end is here for the year 2016 and may be for our beloved Tg. Aru Beach as well - barring ‘divine intervention’. So, should we celebrate to welcome another new year, 2017 or Pray for Tg. Aru Beach?
It has been the tradition of many city folks to welcome the New Year by Tanjung Aru beach with friends, families or even alone.
Some take a dip in the sea to symbolize the washing away of the old year’s bad luck. There’s no record as to when this practice actually started but it has always been along the stretch of Tg. Aru beach especially, the 1st Beach.
The Tanjung Lipat beach front is of course being upgraded to cater for the increasing population but with the locals, Tanjung Aru Beach has always been their first choice.
Tragically, Tanjung Aru beach will be off limit to the public starting March 2017, meaning, this would be last New Year celebration and dip at Tg Aru beach.
With Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED)’s plan to reclaim most of the beach for 5 star resorts, condos for the super-rich and an 18 hole golf course, it is certain that their popular spot together with their memories, will be buried forever.
KK City will lose its ICON – Tanjung Aru Beach. To most locals and visitors from near or far-off, Tg. Aru Beach has been synonymous with Kota Kinabalu or Jesselton in earlier days.
So, city folks, KKlites, visit Tg Aru beach this new year eve, (31st December 2016), to savour the things you’ll be losing forever.

There are many ways to bring about development without having to destroy Nature or iconic places. Only greedy and selfish people would be so insensitive and be willing to stoop so low.
Let’s come together, let’s send a message to TAED that their project is not welcome by signing, leave a comment and share our
