KK City Hall Mayor announcement of the beach closing on March 2017 gave the impression that the consultation project is just merely a procedure rather than a consultation.
Instead of showing transparency and impartiality, the consultation process shows conflict of interest practices which is unprofessional and unethical.
Such conflict cannot be accepted in order to protect the public interest because the commercial project is located on an open space that is formally a gazetted foreshore reserve.
The fact is that TAED's Board of Directors are also among the members of the approval authority of the project. This is unacceptable.
How can the public be assured that the government has taken all the consideration and decision in the interest of the public?
Past DBKK consultation and public forums and meeting shows that many of the issues and worries regarding the projects are conveniently ignored and white washed.
The public has no chance and time to properly access specific information until it is too late to independently consult related experts and professionals relating to the project.
Why is the public consultation done quietly for one month where the notice was published only at one local papers where the circulation is small?
DBKK should also publish all the consultation information via their official website and social network to provide better access to people who are not free to visit the exhibition hall.
DBKK should also prepare copies of the information cheaply for the public to study at their own time without any hassle of coming out with request letters that will consume time.
DBKK failed to address or respond to the public previously in the May 2014 public consultation where about 1300 signature and numbers of objection forms were submitted.
It is obvious that the public and tourist are worried that the reclamation and excavation activities will forever damage a stable and beautiful natural beach.
Whether this project is environmental, economic and public access friendly is still in question.
The public will suffer the damages and pay billions for additional cost if the project fails to deliver their promises in budgets and visions.
By that time, all the people who are involve in this project will no longer be in position to be held responsible for the things they had done.
To date, the recent "STOP the Tanjung Aru Eco Development Sdn Bhd (TAED) Project" online petition has gathered more than 2500 signatures.
