As promised, here is the first transcript of a media mention from last week for people with hearing impairments to read and those with vision impairments to have a description of the video. Train Pain, television news report by Chelsea Carey, [1’28”] broadcast on Channel 9 News Adelaide 6 p.m. bulletin, Thursday 14 December 2017. Newsreader Kate Collins: [At studio newsdesk] Southern suburbs commuters are concerned they'll be left stranded when the Tonsley train station is permanently closed. They’re petitioning to save the stop, saying the elderly and those with a disability rely on the service: [Video of the Tonsley Railway Station Platform, including the blue weather shelter, looking northwards with the former Tonsley automotive factory buildings in the distance. 10 commuters can be seen waiting; some have umbrellas due to light rain; one has a bicycle. Signs pinned on the weather shelter are about boarding for passengers with a disability and the removal of part of the Tonsley Station Park and Ride carpark.] Reporter Chelsea Carey (CC): Frustrated commuters at Tonsley Station waiting for a train running 20 minutes late. Commuter 1: [Close up of woman sitting in the weather shelter wearing a pink top and sunglasses with hair in a bun] This is a really big inconvenience and it happens a lot. CC: But soon there’ll be no services here at all. [Vision of an empty Tonsley platform] [Animation of the proposed project ( excerpt from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) concept, showing a train travelling on an elevated track above South Road and arriving at a station over the Flinders University Oval, adjacent to the Flinders Private Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre, finishing with an animated aerial view of the elevated track. (The entire video can be viewed publicly on the DPTI website or YouTube Channel)] CC: An 85 million dollar extension of the line to Flinders University will see the current Tonsley Station permanently closed to make way for a bridge over South Road. Commuter 2: [Head and shoulders of a younger woman standing at Tonsley Station with the train in the background. She is also wearing a pink top, a pendant necklace and her hair in a bun.] That’ll be a massive inconvenience really. Commuter 3: [Head and shoulders of an older woman holding an umbrella and wearing a blue and white boldly patterned top] {surprised tone of voice}That’s really disappointing. CC: Local woman, Jodie Pearce, is petitioning to save the station fearing its closure will leave the community isolated. [Video of woman sitting in a manual wheelchair, wearing a purple top and long hair, flicking through pages of signatures in a green clipboard on her lap; then wheeling along the platform past the blue “wheelchair boarding patch” painted on the platform] Jodie Pearce: [Head and shoulders profile shot] This is a neighbourhood with a significant number of people with disabilities and a significant number of elderly and we require this station. CC: The Transport Minister says he’s considering a range of options including building a new Tonsley Station further north: [Video of the Transport Minister Hon Stephen Mullighan MP standing at Adelaide Railway Station in front of the “Info Centre” talking and gesticulating with his arms. Then video of red-fronted electric train 4011 arriving at Tonsley Station.] Stephen Mullighan, Transport Minister (SM-TM): [Head and shoulders] So we’ve got to get the location right first and we’ll talk to the community about that to make sure that the solution we come up with meets their needs. [Panning video of Tonsley Station platform looking northwards from the stairs and weather shelter to platform edge to reveal reporter Chelsea Carey walking towards the camera with news story title banner along bottom of screen: “Train Pain” Chelsea Carey; Twitter logo @ChelseaCarey_9; Nine News logo; 9news.com.au] CC: The Minister says “Trains will continue to service Tonsley Station until work on the Flinders Link Project is completed by 2019.” SM-TM: [Head and shoulders, at Adelaide Railway Station in front of the “Info Centre”] We’re certainly not going to be extending the train line up to Flinders University and in the meantime make it harder for people to access the train services. [Final panning shot of Tonsley Station looking southwards from the rail line to the stairs, with a person seated in the weather shelter, finishing at the large sign “Tonsley Station”] CC: {sign-off} Chelsea Carey.
