Save the Original Normanville Kiosk and Café

The issue

Help us save a community icon...

Sign this petition asking Yankalilla Council to leave the Kiosk/Café where it is.Yes, we all want a new Surf Club, but there’s no good reason to demolish a community icon.

As part of the Normanville Foreshore Master Plan, the District Council of Yankalilla wants to build a multi-user two storey design that will combine the Surf Club and Cafe/Kiosk.

However, the business owners believe this new design will reduce the space and operational efficiency of the Cafe/Kiosk and the services they currently provide. It will also put at risk their business viability and risk at least 30 local jobs.

This petition is to request that Yankalilla Council does NOT combine the two buildings. Instead, allowing the Cafe/Kiosk to renovate their existing building and help to maintain the cosy, beachside character of the Normanville Foreshore we all know and love. We do not feel a modern two storey glass building, at a cost of millions of dollars to ratepayers, is necessary nor is it good business sense.

Most importantly, they do not want council to replace their ground level, pet friendly deck with an upstairs balcony only accessible by a large external staircase for pets and their owners. For many of the cafe's elderly regulars (pets as well as people) this simply is not an option. Why should they have the Cafe they visit every day taken away from them?

Jim and Charmaine (current owners of the Normanville Kiosk and Cafe) fully support the rebuild of the Surf Life Saving Club, but do not feel it should go ahead at the expense of the Kiosk/Cafe they, together with their loyal staff,  have spent the past 6 years working so hard to build.

The Normanville Kiosk & Cafe is an important part of this Community and IS a jewel in the crown of the Normanville Foreshore. Yes, the building needs upgrading - and the family business proprietors are more than happy to contribute financially to that.

Please help us keep the Kiosk and Cafe where it is, by signing this petition to show your support.
