This petition is becoming ever more urgent, with reports today that Maripol has been all but wiped out, all the buildings destroyed, 10's thousand of those living there murdered and buried in mass graves, the wreckage looted. I am asked whether this petition will stop the war. Sadly, while that would be our dearest hope, this won't stop the destruction. It will get others thinking and planning for a bright future for a free Ukraine.

We have all seen and heard the horrific reports of what is happening in Ukraine; while the fighting continues, we have to wait, but plans can be made, and decisions are taken. This is an unlawful and unprovoked attack by Russia on Ukraine. Initially, the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and now the invasion of Ukraine. This time Russia has inflicted a significant level of damage and destruction on the buildings and infrastructure of Ukraine. The Putin regime justifies this with the ludicrous excuse of "Liberating the Ukrainians from a Nazi dictator", which is, in reality, an attempt to rebuild the old Soviet Union era one country at a time. However, because the war is failing, Putin has now resorted to turning Ukraine into rubble. 

This petition is to get public opinion on forcing Russia to fund the repair of Ukraine's buildings and infrastructure and the costs of temporary housing and medical costs. The final scope should not be limited to this list and has to be agreed upon once the continued aggression has ceased and the Ukrainian government and people can look forward.

Rebuilding does, however, have to be done promptly and not endlessly delayed by what would be the apparent reluctance to fund such a massive project while bankrupting Russia. 

Like others, our thoughts are with Ukraine and its people. And we send Volodymyr Zelenskyy our thoughts and prayers for doing such an incredible job in such terrible circumstances.
