A big, big thank you to everyone who's contacted the planning inspector with objections and asking for an informal public hearing.
For anyone who hasn't, here's the correct email address east2@pins.gsi.gov.uk. You can also use the portal.
Don't forget to put the appeal number (APP/E3715/W/18/3198388) and your name and address in your email and to say you are against the appeal.
Here's an example email to the inspector calling for an informal public hearing.
to: Ms C Harvey, Planning Inspector
Please hear this appeal by informal public hearing. Annexe K of the procedural guide says that a hearing is appropriate if " the case has generated a level of local interest such as to warrant a hearing". It is also appropriate if the issues are complex and the Inspector is likely to need to test the evidence by questioning or to clarify any other matters.
This application is not simply for 2 agricultural buildings. It is for a large industrial, intensive pig rearing facility quite out of keeping with the area. The issues are complex and the evidence provided should be tested.
The case has generated a high level of local (and wider) interest in the 2 years prior to the planning committee's refusal in February 2018. At that time:
1. There were hundreds of local objections from more than 180 addresses in the parish and borough.
2. Every neighbouring business and resident opposed this application.
3. There were 3 petitions which together attracted more than 37,000 signatures (including many, many local people).
4. There was a protest outside the council offices on 21 February.
5. More than 70 local people attended the planning meeting - so many that the public gallery was unable to seat them all.
6. There was substantial coverage in the local press.
Given that the planning department recommended approval of the application in February, local people aren't convinced they will defend the refusal decision in the appeal.
The appeal should be heard in public so that neighbours and local people can raise their serious issues and objections and see due process be done.
I call on you to hear the appeal by informal public hearing as a matter of urgency.
yours sincerely
