Elizabeth Farrelly is a left-leaning columnist with the Sydney Morning Herald, so I was surprised to find that she supports Israel Folau's right to express his opinion. 

In "Wretched are the offence takers: in defence of Folau and Assange" she demonstrates she understands that sometimes principals are more important than consequences.

Not that in this case there should be a consequence for Folau who is merely exercising his right as a human to express an opinion.
