RTMNU must reform its unfair degree classification system and include recent batches
The Issue
Thousands of students under Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) are suffering because of an outdated rule that determines the class of degree solely based on final-year marks, completely ignoring performance from the previous semesters. This outdated system unfairly penalizes students who have maintained high overall aggregates (often above 70–75%) throughout engineering but received a lower Second Class or Pass Class degree only due to a drop in final-year scores.
Because most national organizations like DRDO, ISRO, and PSUs demand a First Class degree exactly as printed, these talented students lose career-defining opportunities — despite their true overall performance being well above the required standard.
We demand that RTMNU, in alignment with AICTE and UGC norms, immediately adopt a cumulative CGPA/aggregate-based degree classification system like other modern universities. Moreover, this reform should be applied to recent previous batches as well, or at least such students should be issued aggregate-based certificates that reflect their actual academic achievement.
This is not just a request — it’s a matter of fairness, consistency, and justice for thousands of deserving graduates who are being sidelined by an obsolete rule.
