When somebody loses their spouse, it is down to the discretion of their employer regarding the amount of time they can take off work; how much of it is paid leave, unpaid leave, or even holiday leave. At Grief Recovery UK, we have worked with countless grievers who have felt pressured into returning to work too soon, particularly due to finances. We feel that statutory bereavement leave for the loss of a life partner would provide a comfortable amount of time to at least organise a funeral and set the wheels in motion for the administration involved when you lose a life partner.
