Dear Readers
In my last update I informed you of the email I had sent to the Hon Marshall and the questions I had asked of him that he did not answer The Hon Marshall had on several occasions not replied to my emails and so to get a quick response from him has been an achievement, even though he would not deal with the issues regarding the RSPCA NSW. However I do now need answers to the questions asked, the questions that have been asked many times, and questions that as a public servant and the Administrator of the various enforcement agencies (RSPCA NSW being one of them), he has a responsibility to answer!
Below is a reply from the Premier’s Office of NSW, who I had informed of my correspondence to said Hon Marshall. I did ask that the Premier was to be informed of the behaviour of his Minister but it seems that this has not happened. Many readers will know that the previous Premier of NSW had been taken to ICAC (Independent Commission against Corruption), and who resigned when she knew she had to appear before ICAC. Her defence against some of the charges brought against her was only to be able to say that `she did not know’. It is important therefore that the new Premier does know what is occurring.
I have also written to others, namely the Shadow Minister for Agriculture, the Shadow Premier, and Emma Hurst, a Senator representing the Animal Justice Party. I have not had a reply form any of them, and it would be sad to think that a politician who is a member of the AJP is not interested enough to reply and maybe take some action.
So my next correspondence is to the Premier's Office again, and I will ask once more that the Premier be informed and that the questions asked do get answered.
Readers in the past have said that I should go to the press and the TV stations. That is a definite option (and a very strong and realistic option) but it is necessary that the pollies get every chance to answer, and there is a paper trail of avoidance and non- answers to the queries that a taxpayer has asked, so that news and other agencies know that every avenue of inquiry has been sought from the politicians who have the power to make changes.
I feel confident that animal welfare in NSW can be improved if as much publicity as possible can be created, and thus I ask that readers use the link provided to get extra signatures to this petition, and once more I thank all those readers who have given comments, suggestions and advice over the years now that this petition has been running.
The photo shows another very distressed cat. Eyes were lost in fights between up to 200 cats that were starving. It was very upsetting to see what was going on, and I felt very sad. I felt very disappointed when the RSPCA NSW kept saying `there were no welfare issues’. Now I feel the same sadness and disappointment when our politicians, paid by us to enforce animal welfare standards, do not do so.
Keep up the fight, regards Keith
