Dear Readers,
A quick update to clarify a few issues. Some readers suggest that I could climb over the fence with a couple of ladders to the cat or cut a hole in the fence.
This is not a realistic option for the following reasons -
(1) It is illegal to trespass and/or commit wilful damage to property. A lengthy prison sentence could result that would destroy my credibility as a witness to the acts of cruelty that have taken place, and to the ongoing breaches of POCTA. If the relevant organisations saw one way to silence this petition site I am sure they would take it. The principal organisations are of course the RSPCA NSW, Cowra Council, and the Dept. Of Primary Industries.
(2)The cat is very nervous. It would never come close to a person climbing over a fence to get it, and a hole in the fence would either allow the cat to escape into the surrounding bush and woods (causing harm to local bird life) or allow foxes to enter the compound and tear it to pieces.
Readers have asked if the cat could be adopted. Yes, that would be a wonderful solution. Many have offered already to give it a loving home, and I know of two people who spend many hours adopting and rehousing cats (at great expense to themselves).
It just needs the relevant authorities (RSPCA NSW or Cowra Council) to get legal possession of this poor animal and commit to getting it re homed. I can certainly effect a good home for it at a moments notice.
For those of you that have read all my updates know that unfortunately this is not likely to happen.
Once again I urge ALL readers to pass on details of this petition site either by word of mouth to friends or via facebook. Petition reader numbers go up after every update, and eventually I hope the embarrassment to those authorities will prove too much and they will be forced to act, and act in a responsible fashion.
Remember 48% of all cats that come into the RSPCA NSW possession get destroyed. This poor little cat has suffered so much already I just dream about it spending the rest of its days in a loving environment.
I finish by publishing a reader comment from my last update.
Janette -
I have just read the details with this particular petition and sadly feel the frustration those of you who are supporting the protection of those who are vulnerable to violence/abuse, must be feeling. Thank goodness there are people who are still prepared to fight the fight, to come out of their comfort zone and speak up for humans, creatures and nature alike. When we see the cruelty that humans can exhibit it is little wonder the system's that should protect the vulnerable, are just failing. Lets keep supporting those who have no voice to protect themselves and put pressure on those who are given the role and responsibility to take each and every act of brutality and neglect and attempt to correct it. It's an inconvenient truth that humans can be so selfish and at times cruel...keep caring and we'll see change. There are younger people coming through and their disenchantment with how our systems operate may make the future something to be proud of.
