Readers who have not followed all my posts may find the following useful.
(1) After many years of paying scant heed to the cruelty that was taking place at Camp Kitty by issuing many statements that there were `no welfare issues' the RSPCA NSW finally decided to act in late 2016.
Richard McCudden was found guilty of 4 counts relating to approximately 25 animal cruelty charges in December 2016. The RSPCA did admit in Court that they had dealings with Richard since 2009, yet for the people who phoned, wrote, or made representations through their State MP, the RSPCA were happy to state that there were `no welfare issues'!
The Magistrate ordered that McCudden is permitted to have custody control of no more than 33 cats for a period of 5 years. McCudden has also been entered into a Section 9 Good Behaviour Bond for 3 years.
During the period from 2009 to December 2016 there was a huge number of cats present at Camp Kitty, usually between 180 to 200!
(2) Readers cannot understand how a man convicted of that number of cruelty charges can still be able to own 33 cats. I cannot either, but at the trial no witnesses were called, and as far as I am aware neither the Magistrate, the Prosecuting Officer or the Defence Council had visited Camp Kitty!
(3) Since that conviction McCudden has rarely been to Camp Kitty. Most of the cats were removed before the trial. There are only half a dozen cats left there now. He has undoubtedly moved his hoarding obsession to another location, which is unknown. It is most likely that it is still within the Central West area of NSW, and there is every possibility that the Court Orders have been broken from the moment of the trial regarding the number of cats in McCudden's possession.
(4) The cats that are left are undoubtedly suffering. Since his conviction I have contacted the RSPCA NSW on three occasions to report lengthy periods when no one was at the premises to provide food or water for the animals. It was left to others to throw food over the fenced enclosure and to attempt to provide water by running and joining long lengths of hoses. On the last occasion I noticed that the Caretaker for Camp Kitty left at 2.30pm on 17th Jan. 2017 and did not return till 11.55 pm on 20th Jan. 2017. The temperature during the period of absence ranged from the high thirties to 40 degrees C.
After numerous notifications to the RSPCA two Inspectors visited on 21st Jan 17. They stayed for a short period of time, and did not speak with any of the neighbours that had lodged the complaints.
The RSPCA have alleged that I have made false and misleading statements. I do challenge them to make good on that statement and they have the freedom to `set the record straight'. I wonder if any readers can encourage them to do this?
If you would like to try please contact the RSPCA on email mail@rspcansw.org tel 02 9770 7555
Many thanks to all those that take the time to make inquiries from the RSPCA. I believe that every inquiry you make will make the Organisation realise that people are aware of their actions or lack thereof, and this will be of benefit to the poor animals that suffer so much from indifference!
Also please let us all know what has transpired. Your comments are informational as well as inspiring!
