RSPCA: Bring George the Goose Back Home to Wolli Creek!
The issue
George is a beloved local who has lived safely and self-sufficiently in Wolli Creek for over a decade. He is not an abandoned stray; he is a thriving, cherished member of the community who is actively cared for and monitored by a dedicated network of local residents, as well as CCTV at his primary hangout location.
Recently, a visiting content creator affiliated with WIRES took George from his home territory and handed him over to the RSPCA. However, her actions directly violated the mandatory state rescue guidelines she is bound by:
No Justification: Official requirements state an animal must be clearly sick or injured to be removed. Video evidence the creator initially shared to her platforms showed George was nervous around her, but overall vibrant and healthy before she intercepted him.
Injury During Capture: While George showed no signs of injury initially, the video footage revealed he had a graze and was bleeding on his bill after being placed into her transport box.
No Assessment: The creator claims she acted as an "emergency grabber." However, she admitted she did not observe George in distress herself. Instead, she removed him based on a delayed report from a passerby who saw George on Day 1, left him there, and called her on Day 3. A 72-hour delay between a sighting and a phone call proves George was not in immediate danger.
The creator has since deleted her videos and publicly admitted on her page that the situation "was caused by well-meaning people without a lot of information," and confirmed she handed George over to the RSPCA.
The RSPCA currently plans to relocate George to a completely new flock. For a senior, solo goose, the extreme stress of this unauthorized capture, combined with the inevitable territory bullying from a new flock, could be highly dangerous for George.
Because George has a dedicated network of local caretakers and a familiar home territory where he thrives, returning him to our community here in Wolli Creek is the only safe, legal, and humane option. We urgently petition the RSPCA to halt his relocation and return George immediately to his home in Wolli Creek and the neighborhood that watch out for him.
