Adeline Street in West Oakland is a four-lane thoroughfare connecting the San Pablo corridor with I-580. In the past year there have been more than a dozen major accidents on the block between 28th and 30th.
The obvious cause is speeding cars. There's more than a half-mile between the nearest traffic signals (at W. Grand, and 32nd St) and people go fast.
The block is mixed zoning, with mostly residents on one side (who have to back out of their driveways into this traffic) and light industrial on the other (where delivery trucks and forklifts often use one lane of Adeline). It is a tragedy waiting to happen.
We call on the City of Oakland to install traffic signals at these intersections to slow traffic down and save lives.
