Hello my name is Annie Reyes and a week ago I started a petition on the female dress code.I and many others have signed this petition and agree that this dress code should be revised.  The current dress code does not uphold the RRISD values of equality, diversity, and inclusion. You say our shoulders, stomachs, and legs distrupt the males learning environment but, by pulling us out of class and making us wait for a new pair of pants... you’re disrupting ours. It’s not our problem if the boys are distracted by us. Instead of restricting us for something that’s not our fault you should punish them for something that’s theirs. Do you know how hard it is to go shopping for clothes that fit in dress code? The AISD dress code was recently changed so that they could wear ripped jeans, shorts no matter the length as long as they cover your butt, spaghetti straps, and leggings. Even if it’s not for the males, this dress code promotes sexualization of young bodies. Instead of it just being a thigh the dress code makes boys and girls think of thighs in a sexual way. Same with shoulders, collarbones, backs, and stomachs. It also blames the wearer for the onlookers actions. If you were wearing shorts then you got sexually harassed or raped the dress code makes girls like me think it was their fault because they were wearing those shorts. It’s not their fault it’s the boys for not being able to control himself. The dress code is the main reason people are afraid to say they were harassed or raped. They’re scared people will blame them. I hope you will rethink the dress code by following AISD and help us live easier, less sexist lives. In this world our lives are already hard enough.
