Don’t Trash the Catskills!!

Don’t Trash the Catskills!!
The Issue
Hughes Energy Group plans to build a steam autoclave plant for garbage in Roxbury. Trucks would be bringing in garbage from the entire region of upstate New York to a very small town with small roads.
This plant would not only cause guaranteed damage the local ecosystem, but it could cause concern for New York City residents as well, as the Catskill reservoir that NYC gets it water from can be poisoned by acid rain caused by pollution runoff from the Steam Autoclave and pollution from the large semi trucks going coming in consistently.
This would be the first plant of this size in the US. Garbage would be brought in from around the region, six days a week, from 7AM-4PM. Seven semi trucks an hour would be bringing in refuse. Roads would be damaged and roads would not be safe with so many trucks traveling the roads. There are many questions about the use of large flammable tanks, steam from the plant, and where the byproduct and glass and metals will be stored
Many of the roads that will be traveled on by these trucks are residential roads, with houses lining the sides and no sidewalks to permit safe passage for pedestrians. Many children and animals also play near or walk across the roads, with 7 large semi trucks coming in every hour, preventable deaths will become certain.
Hughes Energy is describing this plant as a ‘green energy’ project. But the pollution form this ‘green’ plant will destroy New York’s forests and water.
