We were not quite sure what to expect last night at the board meeting.
We presented our case to the board last night during the public comment portion of the meeting and almost immediately, the County Planning Director, Chad Phillips, tried to sweep us under the rug. We presented the petition to the board and explained to them our case as well as why we went past the Planning Department and straight to the board and they seemed excepting. Chad was persistent in interrupting us as well as telling the board to not ask any more question or respond. He stated that he would send out a memo and this should be handled in court. Chad continued to say that we had caught him off guard and that this was not up for debate.
It was disgraceful to know that our county planning director would just dismiss us like that.
We waited until the end of the meeting and spoke with a couple members of the board who are familiar with the area where we own our property and gave us some positive feedback on how they felt about the situation. We stated that if our bus is considered motor vehicle storage, then every single person who owns an RV, a second vehicle, motorcycles, etc. are in direct violation of the county regulations for having motor vehicle storage on their property if it's not zoned industrial. They felt that we had very strong points and one of the board members had said, that in his 13 years on the board he had never seen someone do what we had done last night at one of those meetings.
Hopefully the County Planning takes that as a sign that we will not back down and we will not give up our rights as property owners.
Ironically, at the meeting we listened to the plans of another developer who requested to have their conservation easement changed to suit their residential development plans and their request to change the boundaries of the conservation easement on the developers property was accepted. This is one more example of the county's willingness to oblige a well-funded developers goals, even when the developer is requesting to change environmentally protected property. How ironic and what timing to hear that case get approved last night.
This county will work through gray areas, as long as you have the money to support your case.
