ROUND ROCK ISD: Stop the Required All Week iReady lessons DURING advisory

ROUND ROCK ISD: Stop the Required All Week iReady lessons DURING advisory
The Issue
It is now mandatory in schools apart of round rock isd to have a required 45 minutes of iReady per week, which takes up ALL free time in advisory for students to complete homework or go to tutoring classes. Even if students have no lesson pathway (if they meet certain requirements that show they are at an advanced level, and therefore do NOT need lessons) are still required to do extra lessons, which have to be made by teachers within the schools, taking up there time to work on lesson plans and add a larger work load onto them each week. Most students get more then 4 and up homework assignments a week, and lots have after school commitments, or not a safe place at home to do work, meaning the only time they have to really work on their homework is in advisory, which can lead to student burn out, therefore decreasing the quality of work they can do, their attentiveness in lessons due to overwork, and more late work for teachers. Advisory is ment as an advocate to help students with tight schedules and help lead more students to academic success. By taking away advisory time, and added workload onto students who are already struggling, isn’t helping the problem of lower academic success (grades below a 70), and it’s making it harder for students to achieve it. Thank you for taking the time to read this message, and please consider signing and spreading this call to action.
