Rotonda West Property Owners,
The next Rotonda West Association (RWA) Board Meeting is on:
Thursday, March 12
2:00 – 4:00 PM
RWA Bldg.
646 Rotonda Circle, Bldg. D
If you plan to speak, you will need to sign in and also check mark a box indicating that you would like to speak. Residents will be given the opportunity to speak after the scheduled meeting agenda items are completed.
One topic widely discussed at the Property Owner Meeting held last Friday, March 6th was whether the Rotonda West Association (RWA) Board should have been more aware of and involved in representing property owners regarding this proposed development. Many residents expressed disappointment and concern that they were not notified earlier and instead learned about the proposal through social media or a petition flyer. Residents feel they should be informed and have a voice when developments of this scale are proposed within their community.
A strong community presence can help encourage the Board to become more involved. We want the Board to understand that concern within the community continues to grow and gain momentum.
New Facebook Page Created for Community Updates
We’re excited to share that a new Facebook page has been created to help keep Rotonda West residents informed and connected regarding the proposed 212-unit development.
Change for Rotonda West?
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1627471978295590
Please consider joining the group and inviting your neighbors or other Rotonda West property owners to join as well. The page will be used to share updates and information about the proposed development, upcoming meetings, and provide a place where residents can stay informed, connected, and involved as the review process moves forward. Thank you to Monika and Jeff Lupton for creating this page for the community.
Property Owner Meeting Recap – March 6
We also want to thank the many Rotonda West property owners who attended the Property Owner Meeting held on Friday, March 6 at the Rotonda West Community Center. More than 250 residents attended to gather information, voice concerns regarding the proposed development, and discuss possible next steps for our community.
The strong turnout shows that residents want to be informed, involved, and part of the conversation about the future of Rotonda West.
Other concerns discussed at the meeting included:
• Traffic congestion, including already busy roads, pedestrian and child safety at bus stops located on roads without sidewalks, potential issues with Fire Department and EMT access, service and maintenance vehicle parking on roads, lack of traffic signals, and limited ability to widen roads or add turn lanes
• Stormwater and flooding concerns, including flood zones, lack of drainage ponds, use of single-family greenbelts as drainage swales, and potential hurricane and evacuation complications
• Infrastructure capacity, including water pressure and sewer system concerns
• Wildlife and environmental impacts, including loss of natural habitat and protected gopher tortoises
• Compatibility with surrounding single-family homes, including the scale of the project, noise concerns, and potential impacts to property values
• The community being marketed as “A Deed Restricted Community,” while CT Lots 1–9 have limited or no deed restrictions and are not clearly identified
• Additional CT parcels currently for sale, and what that could mean for future development within Rotonda West
• The need for additional volunteers to assist with research groups focused on Traffic, Zoning & Easements, Stormwater & Flooding, Protected Species, and Long-Range Planning
Thank you to the new volunteers who signed up to participate in the research groups. We will be reaching out soon regarding the next group meeting. If you would like to volunteer to help research these issues, please contact us. Additional help is welcome as we work together to better understand the proposal and protect our community.
Again, thank you to everyone who attended the meeting and to those who continue to stay engaged.
