In less than 48 hours we’ve collected nearly 300 signatures, meaning many people are in agreement that it’s time for change at 1 Blue Jays Way.
This really boils down to two questions:
1 - Based on an 8 year track record as GM, does the vision of Ross Atkins as GM coincide with building the Blue Jays into a sustainable winner?
2 - Do you believe Ross Atkins has what it takes to be a respected leader and head the Baseball Operations department of this team moving forward?
Here’s a collection of some of the comments and articles talking about the issue and the disaster that was yesterday’s press conference:
“Instead, the eighth-year GM engaged in what felt like 47 minutes of butt-covering – 27 minutes before broadcast cameras, then 20 more in a separate session with writers. Rather than taking an opportunity to show leadership by protecting his manager and coaching staff, while unifying his players after a hard season and gutting loss, Atkins went all Shaggy singing, “It Wasn’t Me.””

“But until a Blue Jays decision maker acknowledges the possibility of a strategic mistake, a disconnect may remain between them and the fanbase that saw the strategy backfire.”

“It was an opportunity for Ross Atkins, the leader of the Baseball Operations Department of this team. A team that always talks about culture, and accountability, and leadership and responsibility. It was an opportunity for Ross Atkins to be a leader - and he failed miserably.”

"Atkins is dealing with a crisis of credibility. Most reporters weren’t buying what he was selling. Based on the immediate reaction on social media, it appears much of the fan base wasn’t, either. Once that trust has been broken, it’s hard to get back.”

“It was a move that resonated around the baseball world and could have lingering effects for a franchise that has somehow regressed amid inflated expectations. There will be a need for trust to be rebuilt in the clubhouse and perhaps a stronger sales pitch to free agents.”

“What's worse, the optimism and hope that 2021 team provided has largely dissipated. It felt inevitable the Blue Jays would only get better after that year's postseason miss. Now, the path forward is unclear.”

“When you watch that press conference, personalize it for yourself and ask yourself this question: “Is that a boss for whom you would like to work?””

If you believe Ross Atkins should be done as General Manager of the Blue Jays due to his inability to build a sustainable winner coupled with his staggering lack of accountability and leadership please continue to spread the word.
