Roof It Out: Put Covers on RSMOHS' Court

Roof It Out: Put Covers on RSMOHS' Court
The Issue
Every school requires efficient facilities in order to supply students' needs and benefit them properly. In Ragay Science and Math Oriented High School, many facilities have been built for their students. The stage in their court is one of them, as are science and computer laboratories with adequate equipment, special facilities such as a hand washing station, and a school clinic. Yet, it seems to be lacking. RSMOHS has built its court for a long time now and for some of its students, it shouldn't be just a court, it should be covered.
Covered courts bring several direct benefits to the school, making it more efficient while also providing practical use and value to many within the area. Aside from Physical Education activities, sports activities, and training inside the school, the covered courts may also serve as the venue for a number of events for the RSMOHS community, including culminating activities, student performance tasks, and even high school prom. While this being said, not everyone uses courts solely for these purposes. They also frequently serve as excellent central gathering places for students to congregate and spend time, whether to hang out and study with friends, play a quick game, or watch others.
There are many reasons why covered courts are beneficial and should be built in RSMOHS.
One of the major advantages of a covered play area or covered court is the shade and protection they provide from the glaring sun for both students and teachers. This is important as excessive sun exposure can lead to skin damage, and possibly heat stroke. Additionally, this can help minimize students’ exposure to UV radiation while doing their activities inside the court. This is one way to ensure that there are sufficient shaded areas to help keep the students out of the sun and keep their skin protected.
The second major advantage of covered courts is that they can be used all year long in all weather conditions. While less permanent shade structures such as shade cloth can be useful, they are not intended to provide shade and shelter during inclement weather. A heavy-duty steel structure, such as our outdoor learning covers, provides shade from the sun's heat and glare while also sheltering students from rain and wind. This means that even when it is raining, the students can play outside and be physically active.
It is important not to overlook the fact that a covered court isn’t just a covered court! It is more of a great multi-purpose facility for RSMOHSians. We've seen students train, study, play, practice, perform in the coverless ground of RSMOHS, and I think it is time for it to step into the next level where it can be more efficiently used.
