In January, the Council introduced a new four‑way traffic light sequence at the Romsey Road / Tebourba Way junction. Since then, I have been raising concerns with Council Officers and the Labour administration about the increased traffic queues and delays this has caused.
On 5 February, the Council Leader confirmed that the changes would be monitored for two weeks, after which a decision would be taken on whether to revert to the original phasing or consider an alternative option identified by highways engineers. That option involved targeted signal timing and operational refinements to improve safety for right‑turning traffic on Romsey Road, but with significantly less impact on congestion.
After more than a month of chasing for an update, I was left with no option but to submit a formal question to the Council Leader at Full Council.
I am disappointed to have now been told that the review has concluded and that no changes will be made. The revised four‑way staging will remain in place.
I will be asking for the full details of the review, including the evidence relied upon, and will share that information when it is provided.
I will continue to make representations on this junction and other local transport issues. Too often, decisions taken by the Labour‑run council show little regard for the daily reality facing residents trying to get to work or manage the school run. Hopefully things will change after the May elections.
