Roll back expanded times and days on 4th Avenue parking meters.
The Issue
Tucson Mayor and Council have negatively impacted the accessibility of visitors and employees to 4th Avenue with their recent decision to expand parking meter times and days. Please sign and share this letter asking them to reconsider these constricting and damaging decisions to our beloved district.

Our historic 4th Avenue district is one of the oldest local business districts in Tucson and a large number of our businesses have been here for decades. Our district has always had parking struggles, and the promise the City made to us over a decade ago was that the revenue from installing parking meters would go towards parking solutions for our district, but instead it has always subsidized other district's parking garages, and is now also going towards underfunded city wide programs.
Extending our meter times to 7pm, and including Saturdays has negatively impacted all of our businesses, our employees, and our patrons. And hurting our businesses in turn hurts your tax revenue, so is ultimately very counterintuitive.
The City has not equipped our district to support these changes as well as it has others. Downtown has the equivalent of 86 parking spaces per business, most of which are non-metered, long term options. 4th Avenue has the equivalent of 3 spaces per business, almost all metered spaces with time caps.
- We ask that you please roll the days and times back to what they previously were, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. You already have a 50% increase on revenue with the increased rates on those hours, and with our district still not seeing any of that reinvested in 4th Avenue, the expanded hours and days are just exploitative.
- We also ask that you please eliminate the 2 hour parking time cap entirely. We have extremely limited options aside from on-street parking, and we all want people to enjoy and feel welcome in our district for as long as they like, not feel pushed out after 2 hours. And if you are getting your revenue, why would you want to drive them off?
You have all been elected to represent and be stewards for the city we love, and protecting and promoting one of it's oldest, historic business districts should just be common sense, but we find ourselves pleading with you year after year to stop hurting the accessibility of our district.
Our district needs your support, not your exploitation.
