Petition Against Private ROBLOX Music Assets - New Update

The Issue

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night fellow ROBLOX developers. From wherever you're reading this, on whatever device you are from, we all have one commonality that makes us the same, our creativity, works of art and determination. But what if those things were taken away from us? What if the very fabric that holds us together is suddenly being torn apart by a force which we cannot control - unless we can. Fellow developers, we have a new change being implemented within the ROBLOX community by its own staff which will make sure every music asset longer than 6 seconds will be made private, making things like soundtracks, custom made music and game themes will all be diminished so popular games like Phantom Forces, Arsenal and Tower Defence Simulator all with iconic themes will have to rely on ROBLOX-created stock soundtracks which would highly limit creativity and custom made themes from ever being played again.

Some more pleas for change and explanation from the ROBLOX developers community:

The only reason creativity thrives within the audio aspect of ROBLOX is because different people can upload new and unique audios that others may be inspired by and use them in their game, but if you take this away then you’ll soon see downward trends and you will destroy your very own developer community. Original ROBLOX-created audios are irritating and most of the time not what developers need - different games require different and unique sound effects something which ROBLOX can not possibly do all the time for every single game out there on the platform. We need this to stop, and we need it to stop now we cannot progress any further on games that are work-in-progress or project collabs if all audio assets are made private and we can only rely on ROBLOX-created ones. This is only gonna push us further down the rabbit hole. - MORPHIC, ROBLOX Game Programmer & Builder.

This is actually quite the pleasing change- and may seem so at a surface level understanding.

I can’t seem to comprehend why the implementation of this system is the way it is. Is it really necessary to private all pre-existing audio over 6 seconds - an arbitrary length to denote “sound effects” - even if that decision is against the will of the uploader? Isn’t it just fine to give said uploader the ability to private audios of their own volition? The fact that is feature is being locked in the name of a “long term solution” speaks of an ulterior motive to doing so. I see no rational reason for this caveat.

The limits on uploads is understandable, at least to someone who does not understand what shouldering the new influx of requests means. But… is 10 really enough for the average developer? I personally am not comfortable dolling out my personal information to a company, as many others are, and am therefore not legible to receive any sort of upgrade unless I crawl my way to DevEx. I think it would be much better for players to opt into paying anyway, in order to upload past the original limit. Better yet, why not include better limits for seniority, clean moderation, or forum membership? Why not allow slots from months past to carry over? Please, we need a system that is more accommodating.

Oh man, just think of the hundreds of thousands of library ID slots used up for duplicate sound uploads because of this change. It’s incredibly inefficient. Thoughts and prayers to any poor audio designers or devs who have to crank out hundreds of audios in the following days. - Kenth3132, ROBLOX Game Builder
