As your may be aware in recent media, yesterday we were delivered the devastating news that our beloved Ravenhill will soon be closing it’s doors. This decision was not unanimous with staff and families given 24 hours notice that a meeting was to take place on Thursday 27th February.

Ravenhill has been a home to many over the last 25 years. We currently deliver care to 36 residents, care that can only be described as special, personal and passionate. The staff at Ravenhill have made it what it is, a home to not only residents but families and friends alike. We have tailored our care to the individual needs of every resident that has came through our doors and we have welcomed them all with open arms.

The decision to close the doors of Ravenhill is not a decision the staff support. For many of us (some who have worked 30+ years) Ravenhill is our home away from home. As staff we want to protect the safety and well-being of our residents and we will not go down without a fight. This is our home and we will be devastated it this is the outcome.

So due to a financial deficit (that’s what we’re told) 36 residents are being asked to uproot from their homes, many elderly and frail, some with dementia and others with more complex illnesses. This decision will cause nothing but stress for these residents and their families. We also have approx 65 members of staff that will also be out of a job, staff with mortgages to pay and family to feed.
