We are at this time pleased to share an update from the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois (ARDC), In the Matter of: ROBERT KNOX ADRIAN.
The ARDC after consideration and review of this matter has suspended Adrian's ability to apply for license to practice law for at least two years "and until further order of the Court."
THANK YOU to Peter L. Rotskoff, Sonni Choi Williams, Joanna Belle Gunderson, and Carol A Kulek. THANK YOU to the administrative staff and other important personnel who were instrumental in seeing this matter through to conclusion.
THANK YOU to YOU.
This was such a long, tiring road.
(Especially since again, we are not backed by an organization. We are not a public relations firm. We are not politically affiliated. We don't have a staff. No one got paid, and in fact, we acted at our own expense. We are a few people just like any other people in any other community with free access to our laws and ability to contact the same offices that anyone can contact.)
There were so many times people told us to stop short, and there were a number of times we almost did - but it was absolutely because of the words and the time that some of your shared with us that we were compelled to keep fighting.
And we know there are a lot of people who feel like us "taking it this far" was over the top and that "it was a waste of time and money" to do this since Adrian had voluntarily retired his law license at the time he was involuntarily removed from his office by order of the Illinois Courts Commission.
To those people:
We agree that there never should have been any reason for us to go this far. It has been an insane labor of love to simply see that the rights we are legally entitled to are being respected by the very people we are paying out of our own pockets to uphold those rights. It's. Crazy. You're right.
And to those who are not viewing this ARDC decision as important because "he retired" (lol, retired...) - We appreciate that the option to reinstate his license is no longer an option. It's not in his hands to decide.
Remember,
This man took the action he did assuming it was over when he did it. He didn't think anything bad at all could come of him taking the law into his own hands and breaking it. He felt entitled to do what he wanted to do when he wanted to do it at the expense of someone else because that's what felt good to him. And that's exactly what needs to be called out and stopped more in our society.
Because this isn't and never was a problem one victim faced one time in one court (unfortunately); we'd like to assert that what we've seen through here could very well serve to benefit many survivors, in many courts, in many situations moving forward.
To all courts and servants of the law,
May this case affect your hearts and guide your hands in making SA cases like this important enough to you that you take this seriously and that you uphold the rights of victims over sympathy for assailants, as is your sworn duty.
And if you don't, do not be surprised if you get called out.
Do not be surprised if you are removed from dockets.
Do not be surprised if you lose the trust and respect of your community.
Do not be surprised if your approval rating drops by +20% of voters.
Do not be surprised if you are involuntarily removed from your office.
Do not be surprised if your freedom to choose to go into private practice or consultation is taken from you.
Because these are all lawful consequences of breaking the law.
And just because we have historically been a society that blindly fears and kowtows to authority even when that authority is being blatantly disrespectful and exploitative of the people it is meant to serve, that doesn't mean we can't change moving forward.
This is probably the very last entry to be made in regards to this matter.
We are just about ready to take a well-earned long winter's nap here.
So in case this goodbye lasts a little longer,
We need you to know that you are powerful. What you think does matter. How you feel is important. What you say can influence your community. The way you treat other people will be felt in ripples through time in ways none of us can explain or predict.
Please, do not ever underestimate one voice. Don't hide your light from the world.
Do not let anyone make you feel like you have to remain silent.
Our undying gratitude and love to each and every one of you out there working to make this a better, kinder, more just world, and fighting for truth and love.
It does matter.
You matter.
Love, always.
