Yesterday, it was announced that over 60 programs were cut at LU. I am pleased to announce that the Science Communication Master's Degree has survived the cull.  We don’t know exactly what went on behind the scenes. On the one hand, there might have been no danger, on the other hand, maybe this petition did indeed make the difference. I want to confirm that the LU president himself saw and acknowledged this petition. If you wish to believe a definitive correlation there, it would be reasonable based on that. Overall, the desired result was achieved. The Science Communication Master's Degree has survived, and to that end, I declare victory. Thank you to everyone who supported.

Although I personally feel bittersweet seeing education in ruins like this, it is a fight for another day. Maybe some things can be rebuilt at LU when the present becomes more amicable. The rabbit hole is deep and complex, and goes beyond LU it seems. Who got LU into this mess in the first place? Why has $1.6 Billion in province-wide education funding been cut as per the Ontario government? Why is it considered a 'temporary' cut? Why are relief packages to Universities so small compared to the losses they faced during covid? They are all scary questions. Take the small victory, and plan for the future.
