The Issue

The New Jersey Pediatric Child Psychiatry Collaborative Program has been providing needed assistance and training for pediatricians in New Jersey who are providing mental health care for children and adolescents. Most children who are in need of mental health care receive this care from their pediatrician. Most pediatricians acknowledge that they need help in providing this care. This program allows a pediatrician to connect with a child psychiatrist, psychologist or a social worker in a timely fashion and to participate in education and training opportunities. The program through the work of Senator Robert Gordon and the New Jersey Department of Children and Families has been funded since 2015 and has provided over 150 pediatricians in the southern half of the state the opportunity to participate and for over 10,000 children to be screened for mental health  problems. We are advocating that the 2017 New Jersey State Budget include funds to continue the program. As a result, the children in New Jersey will continue to receive quality mental health care and the program will be able to expand to allow all of the children in the state to benefit. Please support our effort to encourage the state to continue to fund this program.
