Roanoke County: Fund Our Schools

Roanoke County: Fund Our Schools
The Issue
There is no logical explanation for de-funding Roanoke County Public Schools by $3 million when healthcare costs have again risen for the school system and any raises provided will be eaten up by those increased costs. Additionally, Roanoke County's students do not deserve to have valuable services, programming, and staff cut from their educations. Further, the funds are readily available and would normally be included in the current revenue sharing agreement. We, the undersigned, strongly urge the Board of Supervisors to reinstate those funds to the school system's upcoming budget immediately. Further, we implore the Board of Supervisors to maintain the current revenue sharing agreement that has served Roanoke County well since 1998. The Board of Supervisors and School Board already have a tenuous relationship at times and such a change will only serve to harm the students and staff of Roanoke County Public Schools. Please do what is best for the students and staff of Roanoke County Public Schools. Both boards should endeavor to show full support for them and set good examples for them.
