Roadworks in Rochdale during peak hours

Roadworks in Rochdale during peak hours
The Issue
Our community in Rochdale has been grappling with constant roadworks for over a year now. The Main roads that connect Rochdale to other Towns, such as Oldham and Bury including Manchester Road, College road, Queensway, Roch Valley Way, Sudden leading into Castleton and the Rochdale By pass leading onto the A627. Have all been subject to frequent disruptions due to repeated roadworks. These activities, especially during peak hours, cause severe traffic congestion and unnecessary inconvenience for residents and commuters alike.
Rochdale is a bustling town with thousands of commuters relying on these key routes to travel for work, school, and essential activities. The constant roadworks are resulting in delays, increased commute times, and added stress for all road users. Moreover, businesses in these areas suffer as customers find it challenging to reach them, leading to a negative economic impact on our local community.
While we understand that road maintenance is necessary, the lack of coordination and scheduling of these roadworks leaves much to be desired. Conducting roadworks during peak hours not only adds to traffic woes but also increases fuel consumption, elevating carbon emissions – something our community should be striving to reduce.
According to a 2022 report by the Department for Transport, roadworks cause approximately 20% of traffic congestion in urban areas across the UK. If immediate action isn't taken to schedule these roadworks outside peak times, Rochdale risks escalating this percentage significantly, putting more strain on our everyday lives.
We propose that Rochdale's local council and transport authorities implement a more efficient roadworks schedule that minimizes disruption. By adopting off-peak work hours or nighttime shifts, we can alleviate current concerns and promote smoother transport logistics throughout the town.
It’s time for our voices to be heard. We urge Rochdale's council and relevant authorities to review and amend current roadwork policies. Sign this petition to demand a change for more considerate roadwork timing and protect our daily commutes from unwarranted disturbances.
