Keep Steep Rock Kayak OPEN
The Issue
The RM of Grahamdale has decided to not renew the lease of a long-time small business in Steep Rock, Manitoba. Over the last 13 years, Steep Rock Kayak and Canoe Rentals has been operating on the beach of Lake Manitoba offering rentals, food, music, and a number of attractions that has drawn thousands of tourists to visit the area. This business has come to define the small cottage town of Steep Rock offering a host of tourist attractions while creating a positive, island-like experience. This business has also been the only supervisors of this boat launch, beachfront area providing a safe and inclusive environment for all. The RM has decided that they would like “in” on this amazing location by tearing it down and developing a larger 20-year tourist plan for that area. They have decided that removing (or forcing to relocate) a long-time small business that has become a Travel Manitoba tourist destination, is the answer to future tourism in the area.
