By then they will know how long this lasted for and how many months would be fair to assess in total and with a tax code with a higher allowance too to cover losses in wind down and build back up. Most self employed and small businesses started recovering late last year from Brexit, I certainly noticed a big difference in my work, it was exciting and felt positive again and that my time invested would start to pay off and become a business. I had planned to put aside Jan 31st/July (in advance - based on those increased earnings) 2021's tax return savings this year for which I fear is not going to be possible and what has been put aside to date may now have to be used to live on already with future work looking very uncertain, the companies I work with are in lock down indefinitely. My work is globally connected services but I'm sure most self employed will be affected. On top of COVID 19 I am already anxious about this. Could a simple solution be to increase next year's tax allowance for self-employed to double the norm for example or just postpone it altogether? A simple way to take financial pressure off this awful situation. If the solution is to become Jobseekers they are not understanding that some freelancers and self employed have built a career in an industry requiring skills that by stepping out of causes many damages and setback that they may not recover from and need to stay available for whatever work becomes available to maintain their position in their field. Stepping away to commit to unskilled work could be non-returnable.
