Change the law to have the Gasoline tax (State & Federal) posted on Gas Pumps & Consumer Receipts.
The Issue
My Story started three years ago, as a semi retired cook/assistant on a wealthy family’s yacht. My employer encourage me to incorporate myself so he wouldn’t have to pay my employment taxes. He continued saying that I could use the traveling expense of my Smart car as a deduction when I traveled seventy five miles to and from his boat. At 62 years old, my take home pay wasn’t taking me home. I investigated his proposal, only to find out that the gas tax I thought I could deduct wasn’t on the receipt nor on the pump. The wealthy don’t collect their gas tax receipts, their expenses are absorbed through their corporations along with their obscure lunches.
Through my investigations, a source told me that not ONE state has to post their gas tax amounts on the pump nor on the receipt except California. In the ITEP Report (Institute on Taxation & Economic Policy) it shows how often individual states can raise their taxes. Florida can raise their gas tax every THREE MONTHS as compared to Texas every 22 YEARS. Florida's Governor, Rick Scott, may raise the Florida's state gasoline tax 6 cents per gallon which will increase Florida’s gas tax to 30 to 40 CENTS PER GALLON (County dependant). PLUS the US Federal Gasoline tax of 18.4 cents equals to about 48 to 58 cents PER GALLON that is not shown on consumers gasoline sales receipts.
Thus, every State in the Union, except California, is in violation of consumer's rights to know how much we spend on gasoline taxes. This is about transparency and accountability. If the American People don’t know the tax they’re paying, how can we roll it back and make changes in Government spending.
Americans are unable to verify these tax dollars at work, namely, for improving our transportation infrastructures. The Government's use of these tax dollars should not be used for other unassociated progams.
Not posting the Gasoline Tax Price is Taxation Without Representation, against the American Constitution.
