The Issue
As a parent and teacher, I was enjoying my nice and relaxing summer with my family, until I heard and read what Governor Scott and the Florida Legislatures wanted to do with our teacher "bonuses". The Governor signed the Florida Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program which is sponsored by Florida House Rep. Erik Fresen, stating that $44 million will be awarded to teachers who were highly effective and who rated at or above 80th percentile on their high school SAT or ACT can qualify. When I read this, I was like what else do our teachers have to face now from our state elected officials. Our ACT or SAT that we took over 20, 30, or 40 years ago has nothing to do with with our teaching performance of today.
Please join me in signing this petition, remove the decision of awarding teacher bonuses out of the governor and state legislatures hands by placing this collaborative responsibility of awarding teacher bonuses to school districts, parents, and teachers.
