Call to Ban or Restrict the Use of Neonicotinoids

Call to Ban or Restrict the Use of Neonicotinoids
The Issue
The Facts:
Since the 1940's, the number of bee colonies has declined from 5 million to 2.5 million.
70% of the 100 top human food crops, which supply approximately 90% of the world's food, is pollinated by bees.
Every year, approximately 30% of the bee population is lost. If this trend continues, crops and other plants that rely on bee pollination (90% of all world's food supply) will no longer be available.
Neonicotinoids are the primary class of insecticides responsible for the chemical-induced deaths of honeybees.
Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is a phenomenon that is characterized by a majority of bees in a colony dying and/or disappearing, leaving a queen bee unattended, food, and few nurse bees to attend to still maturing bees. CCD has been on the rise since the mid 1900's and now threatens the well-being of the environment, economy, and food supply.
List of a few crops reliant on bees for pollination: Apples, Mangos, Kiwi Fruit, Plums, Peaches, Nectarines, Guava, Rose Hips, Pomegranates, Pears, Strawberries, Onions, Cashews, Apricots, Allspice, Avocados, Passion Fruit, Green Beans, Cherries, Celery, Coffee, Walnut, Cotton, Lychee, Flax, Macadamia Nuts, Sunflowers, Lemons, Figs, Limes, Carrots, Persimmons, Palm Oil, Durian, Cucumber, Hazelnut, Cantaloupe, Chestnut, Watermelon, Coconut, Tangerines, Boysenberries, Beets, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts, Turnips, Chili peppers, Red peppers, Bell peppers, Green peppers, Papaya, Sesame, Eggplant, Raspberries, Blackberries, Cocoa, Black Eyed Peas, Vanilla, Cranberries, Tomatoes, Grapes
By signing this petition, you will be sending Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut US Senate representative, the letter written below asking for action against the current usage of neonicotinoids.
