Increased Safety Precautions on the Key Bridge

Increased Safety Precautions on the Key Bridge
The Issue
On February 14, 2020 my friend Nazmi Abdalhadi lost his life on the Key Bridge. His car had broken down and he exited the vehicle to check it and call for road side assistance. Over thirty minutes went by before his disabled vehicle was struck which then sent him over the edge of the bridge. For over thirty minutes he waited for help that never came. No blockades were made and nobody came until it was too late. Something needs to change now so another person does not meet the same fate again. No family deserves the pain of a tragic preventable accident like this. Yet so many already have because of the countless accidents that occur on this bridge. So many to the point where it seems normal to see a report of another tragic collision on the Key Bridge. We need to come up with a way so these situations are met with efficiency and the same response. A solution could also, be a shoulder added in case of emergencies or even a net could be put up to protect civilians who are hit off the bridge or jump. The bridge has a vertical height of 185’ there isn’t a valid reason opposing the implication of improved safety regulations. We need to make it easier for people to get help in these situations. Accidents happen to often on the Key Bridge and with the proper precautions they can be avoided.
