Enact an Animal Abuser Registry in Rhode Island

The Issue

According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, Rhode Island has the 5th Strictest Animal Cruelty Laws in the United States.* However, Animal Cruelty, Abuse, and Neglect are still a prevailing issue throughout Rhode Island. The "strict" laws in Rhode Island are simply not enough. We must take it one step further. Any person who is convicted of Animal Abuse/Neglect in the degree of a felony should be required to be listed on the Registry for Animal Abusers and Neglecters, preventing the convicted person from possessing, caring for, or adopting an animal for a set duration of time. It is time for Rhode Island to scratch out Animal Abuse and Neglect for good, for ALL Animals.
