As a student at Walker High School in Louisiana, I valued the ability to stay connected with my friends and family during the day. Between classes, I could text my friends, catch up on updates, and even send a quick message to my parents if needed. Sadly, this communication avenue has been cut off due to the recent ban on cell phone use in our school.

This isn't just about texting friends, but about staying connected in our increasingly digital society. According to a 2019 PEW Research Center study, 96% of Americans own a cell phone of some kind and for many students, their phone serves as an important source for news and other information.

We understand the importance of minimizing distractions during class, but the outright ban ignores the multi-faceted role cell phones play in our lives. We propose a solution that involves designated cell phone use areas or specific cell phone use times, allowing students to stay connected while still respecting classroom decorum.
